By Jozy Caulfield PC: Anne PaolettiStep aside letterman jackets - the bomber jacket has taken over as it has gradually made its way to campus, transforming the good ole lettermen’s jacket into modern sophistication with golden zippers, shiny fabrics, and slimming cuts. As we know, this season has been terribly difficult to dress for with days ranging from the high 70’s to the lows of 20 degrees . . . where does one even begin to dress for days like that. The conclusion? Bomber jackets; transitional pieces guaranteed to give you just the right amount of coverage and style to stay chic and warm this season without the bulk of a winter jacket. The range of options for wearing bomber jackets is expansive. From a basic tee and leggings to a pair of skinnies and a schnazy top, bomber jackets can be worn in any way you please. My go-to look for wearing bomber jackets is as shown (sneakers, skinnies, crop top, simple statement necklace, and jacket) - a casual and simple look that’s perfect for a day out and about. Trends 101: Fashion Sneakers are SO in and are a trend I’ve grown to love as I’ve replaced outfits I’d normally wear heels with for my adidas sneakers (bought on amazon for $38, a style-steal!) adding comfort to some of my favorite go-to styles. Another popular option for wearing the bomber jacket trend is edgy, modern, and well put together pairing skinnies, a loose fitting top, heels and either a large blanket scarf or statement necklace. This look can take you anywhere from dinner to a night on the town. Looking to find your own perfectly fitting bomber jacket? Local boutiques such as Urban Violet, Primp, and Kittsona, are well stocked on the trend with several options to chose from. Style Tip: Although there are several colors, prints and patterns to chose from; opt for a bomber jacket that is more neutral to get the most use out of the piece - such as solid black, olive green, tan, or grey. By Jozy Caulfield PC: Anne PaolettiHere in Minnesota, we all know that fall doesn’t tend to stick around far too long after October, yet this year, the beautiful weather has full heartedly led us into November allowing us to continue to love the season (and our favorite trends too!) With the transitioning and ever changing weather, it can be tough to know how to dress, which is every reason why I am obsessing over this seasons trench vest trend. Trench Vests are the perfect transitional piece for fall. On their own they’re casually cute and add just the right amount of warmth for this tricky dressing season. Easily paired with anything from short sleeve tees to slimming comfy sweaters, trench vests are just what you need to step up your fall wardrobe. The vests, much like every other trend, add a unique flare to an outfit in their ability to be worn several different ways whether it be tied around the waist, draped over your shoulders, or worn open and loose for an effortlessly “put-together” look. What I love most about trench vests is the diversity of styles, colors, and lengths that they can be found in. The style I am wearing is a traditional look, yet the styling options are near endless. I found my trench vest at T.J. Maxx (surprise, surprise!) although have seen the trend all over from local boutiques such as Urban Violet, Kittsona, and PRIMP to larger stores including (but not limited to) H&M, Express, Macy’s, ZARA, Nordstroms, Lucky, and more. Pairing my trench vest with a sleek and flowy white tee, dark-wash skinnies, peep toe wedges, and a light scarf is my go-to style for wearing my trench vest. This look is perfect for a brunch date or a quick little trip to the mall. Style Tip: Pair with a statement piece, such as a light scarf or a bold necklace, for that last little finishing touch. By Jozy CaulfieldThe first time I wore a choker was at my “Josie and the Pussycats” themed birthday party when I turned six. My mom had gone all out for the party making each of my friends and I matching pink cheetah print skirts, kitten ears, and of course, little black chokers. The next time I wore a choker, was halloween in high school when I decided to dress up as a peacock (which is another story in itself), and it wasn’t until this summer, that for the third time in my life, I wore a choker, and suddenly, they’re everywhere, and seem to be staying. Chokers are simple, sleek, and did I mention super-duper cheap? I found my basic choker at Forever 21 for $1.98, a price that is unbeatable when were talking style statements. Although it may be small, and as some may think “nothing special” the choker is a statement piece all on it’s own adding a dramatic last touch to any outfit that just needs a little something more. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I told you that chokers can be found nearly everywhere, because trust me, they can; Target, H&M, Forever 21, Free People, American Eagle, and Urban Outfitters to name a few, all carry various styles of chokers guaranteed to satisfy your unique choker style. Take a peak below at how I’ve styled some of my favorite choker trends! The Classic: With this classic style, you really can’t go wrong. Pair with anything from a basic tee for a more casual look or dress it up and wear it with an off the shoulder top for a little touch of sass. The Lacey: Take this delicate beauty on the night out and pair with an edgy piece, such as a leather jacket. The Wrap: Edgy and unique, pair this choker with a solid top and stray away from anything too crazy as this wrap necklace speaks for itself.

By Jozy CaulfieldPumpkin spice and everything nice, fall is finally here and tis the season for sweaters, booties, layering and my absolute favorite, blanket scarves. With prints and colors of every assortment, a blanket scarf is the must-have addition to your fall wardrobe as they pair nicely with just about everything, adding a cozy touch to a fall sweater or a little bit of warmth to a cute vest. I’d be lying if I said these adorable pieces weren’t worth the price as I’ll admit, I own twelve! Like many other fashion staples, these scarves come in many different styles from the traditional rectangle to a gigantic square. Typically, I like to opt for scarves that come in big squares that make it easy to fold and wrap into cute chunky bundles (not sure how to wrap? - it’s easy! Check out the how-to below.) Luckily for you, blanket scarves are an easy find as they are sold at just about every big retailer. I have already seen several stores this fall selling these classic fall staples; Target, H&M, Forever 21, Old Navy and GAP are some of the larger retailers but on a local scale, check out Heartbreaker in Uptown and Urban Violet in NE Minneapolis. Grab some coffee and support these local stores, and ultimately, find your perfect fall scarf! . . . (P.s. for all you online shoppers, be sure to check out amazon and Lulu's for some super cute options! I advise to read comments and reviews prior to purchasing for the best results.) Found that perfect scarf? Great! Here’s a few tips and tricks to get the most out of your new scarf. 1. Classic The simplest and most common way of wearing a blanket scarf. Fold the square diagonally to make a triangle, drape the scarf over your neck with the ends facing the back, cross the ends behind your neck an pull forwards bringing the two ends to the front. Style Tip: Make ends meet Clean up the classic loose style and make ends meet by taking the ends of the scarf hanging in front, tie into a knot, and tuck behind the main triangle of the scarf to create a handkerchief look. 2. Shawl Effortlessly casual, another quick and easy option for making the most out of your blanket scarf, simply fold the scarf into a big triangle, wrap around your body and drape the ends over your forearms. Style Tip: Dress it up! Take the shawl to another level with a skinny belt! Instead of draping the ends over your forearms, let the ends hang loose in the front, take a belt and wrap it around your waist, fastening in the front. How do you wear your blanket scarf? This trend has been popping up on all of Hollywood’s A-Listers from Julianne Hough to Candice Swanepoel. A fun variation to the classic ponytail, it’s the perfect hairstyle for when your hair isn’t doing quite what you want, or you just can’t stand it being in your face for one more second.
Whether you’re sporting the half bun at a music festival (like Kate Bosworth at Coachella) or for a more formal event (like the Duchess of Cambridge herself) you can spin this hairstyle to be appropriate for all occasions! By Haley Feyereisen Spring is right around the corner so that means it’s time to put away the winter coats, mittens, boots, and time to breakout the shorts, tank tops, and t-shirts! Yes I know a t-shirt seems like an outfit for sleeping or working out, but not anymore. The t-shirt dress is a simple and comfortable outfit that can be dressed up with the right accessories. It is my favorite to wear to class on warmer days because it is cute and keeps me cool (when Minnesota decides to be above 60 degrees that is). There’s so many ways to wear the t-shirt dress with different accessories.
For class: t-shirt dress, long necklace, converse For a night out: t-shirt dress, long necklace, wedges with thigh high socks For a day shopping: t-shirt dress, flannel around the waist, flip-flops Try any of these combos for a perfectly t-shirt dress! By Katrina Vogelgesang It seems like it’s been forever since skinnies haven’t been the go-to jean, but 70’s style wide leg jeans are making a comeback. Wide leg pants have been spotted on some of the blogosphere’s most famous fashionistas including Blair Eadie of Atlantic Pacific and Mary Seng of Happily Grey. You can find these wide leg pants at all your favorite denim providers like J Brand, Paige and Current and Elliot, but if you’re denim hunting on a budget, Forever 21 and Free People have awesome pairs as well. In white they’re the perfect spring staple and are adorable paired with your favorite crop top. They’re also perfect for lazy weekend wear when you tuck in your favorite tee! However you decide to style them, trying out this fun, new hippie inspired denim trend is an absolute must.
By: Cece SjoquistYou saw them on the streets of fashion week and would probably see them on a ton of girls as you walk through the mall. Having your purse on your back is now the “it” thing to do. If you follow as many fashion icons and bloggers as I do you have for sure seen this trend on the horizon. I don’t think there is a specific type of backpack purse, they range far from slouchy to structured and anywhere in between.
Kayla SamuelSurprisingly, it has been feeling like spring on campus this past week. As it begins to warm up, layers are shedding and people are showing more skin. But for those breezy days, you might need a light layer---a floral print kimono is the perfect piece. Kimonos were extremely popular last year and will continue to be a staple piece this year. This lightweight, Japanese inspired silhouette brings ease to any outfit. Not a fan of floral or bright colors? You can find solid, neutral colored kimonos at stores like Forever21. Even on the runways, designers have been inspired. Kimono jackets are a structured version of a kimono, usually paired with a waist belt, creating a clean, tailored look. By: Kalley JonasLove Your Melon hats are a new item popping up around campus that benefit more than just the customer. They are based on a buy one – give one basis, meaning for each hat you buy, one is given to a child undergoing cancer treatment. The Love Your Melon brand originated out of St. Thomas University by Zachary Quinn and Brian Keller, who’s mission was to start a brand that would make a difference in their community. Along with their buy one – give one program, they also have events they call Therapeutic Adventures, in which they bring the children on plane, helicopter, boat and limo rides to get them away from their treatments and hospitals for the day. After just a few years, they have grown and been featured on both The Today Show and Good Morning America. They have also begun to carry baseball hats as well as t-shirts on top of their winter hat collection. These trendy hats not only look super cute with your winter ensemble but are also for a heart-warming cause. Check them out at www.loveyourmelon.com and find your perfect hat for this winter. By: Kalley Jonas6 Cold Weather Essentials You Need This Winter As Minnesotans it’s no secret that staying warm is something we must deal with on a daily basis, especially when you’re a college student who has to trek around in the freezing cold just to get to class. While staying warm is a focus for the majority of the months each year, this doesn’t mean you have to forego your sense of fashion. I’m here to give you this year’s 6 essential pieces to get you through the winter. 1. Pastel Coats- Pastel coats are all the rage this season. Pair them with a cute pair of booties and you’re set! 2. The Floppy Hat- These versatile hats are one of my favorite trends this season. Whether you’re dressing up or dressing down, a floppy hat will make your outfit. 3. Fingerless Mittens- These adorable mittens are perfect for anyone who is always on their phone. You’ll keep your hands warm but still be able to check your Twitter, it’s the perfect win-win. 4. Over-The-Knee Boots- Yes yes yes! The over-the-knee boot! Tap into your inner Serena van der Woodsen this season and find the perfect pair of over-the-knee boots, they are a MUST! 5. Leg Warmers and Boot Socks- Leg warmers and boot socks are a small but very effective way to keep you warm. They look adorable peeking out of your boots and add so much to an outfit. 6. Oversized Scarves- And finally, the oversized scarf. Scarves are always my go to when I need to add something to an outfit. They enhance any wardrobe and are perfect for keeping you toasty warm! Give Back- Now is a good time to remember that in these cold winter months, not everyone is able to buy themselves and their families clothing to stay warm.
