Moods of NorwayBy: Laura KrauseYou may have spotted this quirky, colorful store, Moods of Norway, on the first floor of the Mall of America as I did one Saturday and, was it a find! To begin, it’s one of only a handful of stores that is outside its homeland of Norway. This means it provides unique clothing to Minneapolis that we would otherwise miss out on. They have bright colors and bold textures of clothing that are rarely found here in Minnesota. I first heard of this store when I was given their look-book for the spring season as a Christmas gift. I didn't think much of it until I spent a short vacation in Bergen, Norway. It was my first day exploring the city and I was walking to the marketplace near the water when I came across "Moods of Norway." They had me at “Super Duper”. I mean, I HAD to go in. I first noticed that they had a preppy clean sort of style but then they had some funky, retro pieces like a fully sequined purple cocktail dress that came all the way up to the neck and had a full skirt. I then went up to the second level that had all the men’s clothing. They had bright yellow simple polo’s, suit coats with splashes of hot pink and patterned dress shoes. Basically everything you could imagine to be in Ken’s closet. The store has such a laid back, care-free and “don’t take yourself too seriously” kind of atmosphere that makes me even more expressive about clothes, personal style and fashion. I think this feeling is best understood from this video of the creators themselves at the opening of their store in Los Angeles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hc0LtT9fvuo The one draw back is the prices. They may be Scandinavian like H&M but they definitely don't have H&M prices. They aren’t crazy though, I bought Moods of Norway jeans for about $50 and that wasn’t even on sale! So next time you pass that funky little shop called Moods of Norway on the first floor of the South side of MOA, stop in, take a look around and try on some “Happy clothes!”
