With only a few days left until thanksgiving break and the holidays not far behind, it’s hard to focus on finals and the fact that the semester is basically over. Don’t close your planner just yet, now is the perfect time to take a few minutes and check in with yourself before final grades are posted and spring classes start. Check your grades This tip is more crucial than you think. I’m guilty of it as well. I realized yesterday that I had no idea where my grades were in any of my classes and I felt so much better after seeing where I was at and what was left to turn in. Even if your grade is where you want it to be, it’s still a really good idea to look back at the syllabus and see what is left that could affect your grade and keep you in the know. It also allows you time to fix your grade in the class without the pressure of one final exam. Pros and Cons
What did you like about this semester? It could be friends, things you joined, classes, or even your major. Take a look at what you really liked about this semester, so you can make sure to include it in the spring. You might even find more things that are similar that you enjoy and can make your semester even better. Don’t forget to look at what you didn’t like about your semester and try to see what the problem was like not organizing your time well or changing your major. College is stressful and a lot of work. Why make it harder on yourself? Spring Cleaning For the spring semester, take advantage of everything you said you were going to do in the fall and never did. Hang out with people in your classes that you always talked to, join a club, start a club, rush Greek life, start eating healthier, or go to more sporting events. New classes don’t have to be the only fresh start. You have a whole semester to be a completely different student and person, go for it. By: Elizabeth Graham
Whether you have your major all planned out and feel like you’ve thrived this semester or you’re lowkey counting the days until summer, everybody gets stressed. Don’t worry, though, I’ve discovered 5 super simple ways to de-stress during your week that are guaranteed to having you feel like you can conquer that Monday…or Wednesday because let’s face it every-day is Monday until the weekend. Maintain a Good Sleep Schedule It may seem like a minor change at first, but you feel such a difference when you have a structured sleep schedule. By giving yourself a healthy amount of sleep, it’ll make it easier to get up every morning and increase your productivity. You’ll start every day feeling refreshed and ready to get things done. Treat Your Self Find something that is relaxing to you or you always complain that you never make time for. This could be watching your favorite show, going to a sports game, or even visiting your favorite café and actually getting yourself a treat. You deserve to enjoy yourself after being at school or a job all week, so go for it. Just remember everything in moderation. Take Time Away from Electronics
It’s very easy to forget how much you’re on electronics all day by the time you do homework on your laptop, browse social media, and watch something on Hulu. Give yourself a few minutes or hour away from your devices and unplug (the best time is right before you go to bed). Go see your friends in person instead of texting them. Read a book you never have time for. You’ll be surprised how refreshed you feel after putting away your phone. Change Your Study Spots Everybody has a study spot they love. Try changing your spot and going somewhere different during the week. Take what you like about your favorite spot like the noise level or how spacious it is and enjoy a new spot. You can still be productive and get a new change of scenery allowing you to feel motivated in a fresh environment. Goals For the Week At the beginning of the week, make a short list of what you want to accomplish. This could be any possible thing you want to do during the week. It doesn’t have to just be school-related. If you write it down, you are already more likely to accomplish it and can have a good week from Monday-Friday. Who remembers checking the days off the calendar and anticipating summer back in the day? And by day, I mean elementary-middle-high school. For many, summer is a time of rest and relaxation, but for others it means a lot of change. New routines, jobs, friends- a whole lot is thrown at you during those short 3 months. You might be moving back home or starting a new internship or saying goodbye to your roommates, and it's a lot to take in- especially with the stress of finals. My advice: breathe. You are strong and you can handle this! Before you know it we'all all be back hitting the books, like we never even closed them!
xo, Sydnee I think we can all agree that ice cream is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle, right? ;) We all love it, but sometimes our waistlines don't, or maybe our digestive system doesn't. Introducing....Halo Top. The low calorie low sugar, high protein ice cream alternative! This delicious treat ranges from 250-360 calories a pint, that's right- a pint! You can indulge without the guilt. So far I've tried birthday cake and chocolate chip cookie dough, both of which I recommend. We all know the stress of finals is real- so why not treat yourself?
xo, Sydnee This past week my family and I celebrated our beloved Hazel's 1st birthday. She came into our lives in July of 2016, and has been the best little nut ever. She is a Mini F1B Goldendoodle with burnt orange fur and eyes to kill. Hazel definitely has a personality of her own... lets just say focusing is not her biggest strength. However, she is the world's best snuggler and friend. I could not imagine life without her! Check out her adorable Instagram account to see pup-dates weekly! @heyitshazel1229 xo, sydnee I don't know about you, but it seems this catchy saying is true every year! April is one of my favorite months of the year. It finally begins to smell like spring, the grass turns green, oh and it's my birthday. Here in Minnesota, it seems like it's either raining every other day or forecasted to rain. The gloomy grey clouds can make the days feel long, but we all know what's about to come! Sunshine, summer, happiness! Hang in there, those showers won't last forever.
xo, sydnee Spring is in the air!!!! Yay. I am so ready for warm weather and flip-flops. Spring is my favorite season because everything feels so fresh. One of my favorite things to do when the weather warms up is to visit the infamous Stone Arch Bridge. It is always booming with people, which make it even more fun. Another fave- the Minneapolis Farmers Market. They have an awesome selection of fresh fruit, veggies, and my favorite, flowers. Be sure to check it out. These are just a few of the things I’m looking forward to as Spring continues!
Xo, Sydnee As the semester is a little over halfway complete, I think it is time to share a little motivation to keep you grooving during the last stretch!
1. Keep your eye on the prize- Remember all those New Year resolutions? Maybe lose 10lbs, make the dean's list? Now is the time to restore those resolutions and put all your energy into them. If you've fallen off the wagon, don't worry- it is never too late to keep trying! 2. Plan something special- After the long semester you're bound to want to treat yourself, right? Right. Now's the time to book that vacation you've been dreaming of, or make that appointment for a massage. By the end of the semester you know you're going to wish you had! 3. Practice patience and kindness- The end of the semester is a crazy time for everyone: your roommates, professors, even your landlord! With this in mind, remember to be patient with those around you as we are all experiencing the same thing in different ways. Hopefully these three tips will keep you motivated through the end of the school year! Good luck! xo, sydnee One of my all time favorite breakfasts has to be avocado toast. Avocados give me so much energy, plus they're a healthy fat! My favorite way to enjoy is with two hard boiled eggs on top. Add a little salt and pepper, and voila, your perfect avocado toast! Not only is this a quick breakfast that takes no more than five minutes to make, but it also tastes delicious!! Next time you're in a pinch try this yummy breakfast, and let me know what you think!
