OKAY. So if there is one thing that almost everyone loves it's a good pizza. There are so many endless topping and sauce combinations, as well as different crusts which guarantees anyone can choose something to enjoy. However, eating the same greasy “fast food” style pizza can get old fast. Don't get me wrong, I love a good dominos pizza every now and again, but sometimes you want something that seems a little more “real” if that makes sense. A big problem for me after going gluten free was finding a pizza that fit my dietary need as well as something that still was delicious and didn't crumble when you picked it up or tried taking a bite out of it. Me and my friend had tried countless restaurants and pizza places, and the majority of them were just fine if anything. After being introduced by my friend Grace to a place called Detellos, my search for a place with all around good pizza (including one with a yummy gluten free pizza) was over. When we got there I ordered a plain old pepperoni pizza, but it was anything but plain. The crust was the perfect consistency and was topped with dozens of pepperonis and mounds of cheese. It was hard to not try and finish the entire pizza alone because it was that good. This place has the perfect “comfort” pizza, and is definitely a place to check out when you're in the mood for delicious and large amounts of pizza and pastas!
Thanks for following, foodies! Until next time!

As the temperature begins to drop and the snow starts to fall (thankfully not yet stick though), being comfy and cozy indoors is everyone's favorite activity. Weekends, especially Sundays, are the best for staying in bed all day watching movies, staying warm, and enjoying hot, yummy beverages. Now, I love me a good latte, but those aren't always as accessible depending on the time of day. My favorite go to homemade drink is peppermint hot chocolate. I know the peppermint part isn’t everyone's favorite edition to the classic winter drink, but it reminds me of the holidays and makes it a little more special and fun. For the recipe, like anyone else would, I stalked Pinterest until I saw the perfect one compliments of http://ashleemarie.com/the-worlds-best-hot-chocolate/ The recipe called for:
The instructions said to:
This was seriously SO easy to make and SO SO yummy. All I did was add a little bit of peppermint extract to mine until it tasted how I wanted it to. I topped mine with tons of whipped cream and dark chocolate chips, but there are so many possibilities. You could top with sprinkles, caramel or chocolate drizzle, cookie crumbles, candy cane shavings or anything else you can think of. This drink is absolutely perfect to enjoy while you're comfy at home, to satisfy that chocolate craving or even for holiday parties! You could easily add a vanilla flavored // whipped vodka to give it a little kick.
At the end of the day, you really can’t go wrong with snuggling up with a big mug of hot cocoa. So, definitely grab those footie pajamas and check out this recipe to see what delicious twists you could add to this drink. As the snow began to fall, and really stick, I found myself seriously craving something warm and comforting. Being that it was a Friday afternoon during rush hour, I had to try and find somewhere to eat that was reasonably close to where I was to try and avoid the chaotic mess of cars on the freeway. If you have ever been to Eden Prairie, you know that it is full of restaurants and fun little places to eat at. I knew I wanted to go to a place that offered many options. I was spending the day with an Eden Prairie native and asked her advice on where we should eat for the day. We stumbled upon a little restaurant called Tavern 4&5. Being that this restaurant was more on the casual side, I thought it was a good opportunity to break out my striped cigarette pants with a sort of ~Masculine~ vibes. I paired these versatile pants with a maroon cropped mock-neck, black lace up booties, and my warm, fuzzy duster style coat for a little added warmth. After peering at the extensive (and impressive I must say) gluten free menu, we decided on spinach artichoke dip paired with slices of buttery gluten free pita bread. Let me tell you, this was probably some of the BEST gluten free bread I have ever had. We then decided to split the Sweet & Salty gluten free pizza topped with prosciutto, mozzarella, and balsamic. It was SO good. I must say I was extremely stunned by the inviting atmosphere as well as the food at Tavern 4&5. If you're ever in the Eden Prairie area, I definitely would check this place out!
This past weekend I was celebrating the very special occasion of yet another roommate of mine turning 21! Which naturally called for a trip to Uptown for some margaritas along with Bar Louie's phenomenal assortment of appetizers (that just so happened to be half-off during happy hour). Being the tremendous foodie that I am, I decided to order an app just for myself. Bruschetta has been a long-time favorite of mine as it is a classic, so I knew I couldn't go wrong. To my amazement the waitress brought out a martini glass the size of my head filled with delicious and fresh bruschetta as well as an endless ring of toasted garlic bread that lined the circumference of the glass. I am not kidding when I say that this martini glass full of food was taller than me (as in my torso sitting down). I physically had to reach up in order to eat the food, which was surprisingly entertaining and also probably amused others watching me struggle. Needless to say, if you're hungry for food the size of your head, Bar Louie is the place to go. Large portions of crazy fresh and delicious food will have you becoming one of their regulars (I know I have).
Finally Minnesota has given us a sense of hope for the arrival and permanence of warm weather! This is the (short) season to enjoy the outdoors and indulge in foods that not only cool us off but curb our cravings. This past weekend I enjoyed a Chef's Own Flatbread at Aster Cafe in St. Anthony Main. With a base of house tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella topped with fennel sausage, chicken, soprassata salami and bacon I left feeling more than satisfied. This savory and spicy Italian fare paired perfectly with the warm sun and a strong house cappuccino. The perfect personal size allowed for the enjoyment of every last bite. I have to admit I was very conflicted in my meal choice, the fresh sandwiches and house gnocchi were also contenders in the decision making. By process of elimination, and a hankering for Italian meats and seasoning I chose the Chef's Own. However, I do plan to make a return with friends to try the Charcuterie Board of house-cured and locally-sourced meats and cheeses for an appetizer along with The Mirage, a non-alcoholic beverage that consists of blackberries and strawberries with citrus and mint as a refreshment on a particularly scorching day. Needless to say, Aster Cafe's patio felt like home, and I wholeheartedly intend to go back soon and explore their menu further.
I hope everyone had a great weekend spending time with their families and most importantly, eating! This weeks post is about Deviled Eggs, which make a great hors d'oeuvre at any family or social gathering!
Here's what you'll need for 1 serving (I used 3):6 eggs, hard cooked and peeled 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1 teaspoon yellow mustard 3/4 teaspoon white wine vinegar pinch of salt (optional) fresh ground black pepper (optional) smoked paprika (optional, I used it though!) First you start by cutting the eggs in half and scooping out the hardened yolks with a spoon. Take the yolks and place them in a mixing bowl with the mayonnaise, mustard and vinegar. Mix them together by mashing the yolks with a fork into the other ingredients. Add salt and pepper to taste. Then using a spoon, distribute the mixture into each egg white half evenly. Finally, finish off by sprinkling paprika on top and simply enjoy! This week I decided to write about a recent weekend trip I took to the Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado. I had the great opportunity to travel as my brother was competing in the USASA National Snowboarding Competition. Not only did they have lots of amenities for snowboarders and skiers, but they had tons of comfort food! These included a grilled cheese shop, and a donut shop located just steps from each other in the Center Village.
I decided to venture into Sugar Lips, where I was welcomed by the pleasant aroma of fresh mini donuts. There were toppings galore, I chose to go with the classic Oreo and Vanilla. I can't say I've ever had a better donut, these literally melted in my mouth. Probably not the healthiest choice I could've made, but it was definitely the correct choice for a foodie. So if you ever take a ski trip to Copper Mountain make sure to stop at Sugar Lips, you'll smell it before you see it! For this weeks post I wanted to show everyone one of the new salads I've started to eat on a weekly basis. It's super easy to make, and most importantly it works for a college students' budget.
Here's what you'll need, Salad Mix (I chose spinach and fresh spring mix for texture preference) Lemon Dressing Zucchini Parmesan Cheese Olive Oil Lemon Juice Pepper (to taste) I started out by chopping my zucchini into round slices and cooking it in a pan with olive oil and lemon juice on medium heat. Once the zucchini darkened a little and became visibly softer on one side I would flip it to the other. Meanwhile, I was preparing the rest of the salad by getting my greens into a bowl. Once the zucchini were cooked I combined them with the salad mix and added the lemon dressing. Last but not least, I sprinkled on the parmesan cheese and pepper to taste. You can make this salad your new spring go-to, enjoy! It's no surprise that Tim Hortons has made it's debut in Dinkytown some including myself never thought the day would come. This Canadian based chain made its way across the border to flourish on our beautiful Minneapolis campus. Thank you Canada. We can thank you for the affordable priced coffee, donuts, bakery goods, and the rest of your food! If it weren't your biggest American competitor Dunkin' Donuts, I'm glad it's you.
Nevertheless today I embarked on a mini Sunday brunching that comprised of me ordering a 10 pack of their famous Tidbits. Needless to say these exceeded my expectations. These little bit sized donuts come in a variety of flavors including apple fritter, honey dip, old fashion plain, old fashion glazed, chocolate glazed, sour cream glazed, blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, lemon and many more. I got many different flavors including a seasonal fan favorite (birthday cake) that even had colorful sprinkles. The best part was 10 of these little guys only cost me $2, it was truly the sweetest steal.o edit. Having class on the St. Paul campus every day can be tiresome. The options are slim to none, however Lori's Coffee House is just steps from campus. This morning I stopped by to grab a cheap $3.50 cafe mocha (tax included). That's a whole lot of rich, frothy goodness for a cheap price. Try measuring that up to your grande Starbucks mocha. They also have the best bakery items, freshly made each morning before they open. I believe the bakery goods start as low as $1.00, I purchased a chocolate chip muffin (it's basically the size of two muffins, and it not only had large chunks of chocolate inside but chocolate fudge drizzled on the outside). I think my grand total for breakfast was $5, (so spendy). So look no further to "splurge" between classes, Lori's is just down the block.
