By Anni CaylorWe’ve talked about ‘90s mom jeans and I’m sure you’ve noticed the ‘90s grunge style taking over outfits everywhere. Let’s get down to the basics though. Velvet. Velvet shirts, dresses, skirts, shoes, necklaces, purses. You can find anything you want in this heavenly, magical fabric. And why wouldn’t you want to wear the most comfortable fabric in existence? The best thing about it is that is born from decades past, so it can be found in virtually any thrift store. I own way too much velvet, but my favorite pairing is a black velvet dress that I got at a thrift store for $10 and an oversized denim jacket (a trend that we’ll get to later). The most popular velvet colors right now are the classic black and a deep crimson. If you do go with a crimson piece or any other color, especially if it’s a dress, stick with that as the focal point of your outfit. Make everything else complement it, without overpowering it. With a black piece though, you can go ahead and add something extra. Pair a black dress with a floral kimono for spring or make it casual with some flannel. With either piece, you can’t really go wrong with any shoe choices. Converse or any other sneakers make it casual, or wear a pair of booties to dress it up more. The best part about this is that you can’t really go wrong, velvet looks great in any form with anything. Just be warned that people will probably want to touch it.
