By Megan QuistWhy spend $40.00 on some trendy overalls when you can get the equivalent for $5.00 at a thrift store? I feel as if a large majority of people are more afraid to take the dive into a thrift store more so than going to a second hand store. So, what’s the difference between second hand and thrift? Second hand stores are far more particular about what they allow you to sell to them. They need to have the current trendy brands and styles. The fabulous aspect about thrift stores is that they take just about anything and everything. These boho inspired “thrifters” to my eye were the perfect fit for campus street style. The first model featured calls her style experimentive and endogenous with items from Goodwill. She is in “Fit Flops” (with socks), cotton ankle length sweats, a red tank for a pop of color, a bedazzled tank, and an oversized button-up which could be either men’s or women’s. She added her own flair once again with some formal earrings that most would never think to pair with such a laid back outfit, and a multitude of rings. These rings are also very trendy right now. The second model for thrift store style was in a gray tee and some overalls, tights, and some slouchy boots. Her backpack was also functional and stylish! The outfit was from a thrift store, and she was also rocking the unique ring trend as well. The Verdict: Thrift, Shop, or Secondhand Shop?
In my eyes, if you are going to a themed party or concert, stick to the second hand shops. But if you want something unique that you could potentially wear everyday, thrift! Especially with the recent turn in fashion with the cycle of trends, 70s bohemian style is very much in style now. It is also perfect for the upcoming summer months!
