By Megan QuistIt’s not a surprise that the University of Minnesota Twin Cities is home to many international students from all over the world. Looking around campus many different students, and student groups embed the two different lifestyles to take in and become one with the everyday Minnesotan life. There was one international student from China in my Softlines analysis class that caught my eye. He stood out from the rest of the class with a European shaved hair-cut, and blonde upper half which contrasted against the natural black roots. Each day for class he would be dressed up in something unique. Most boys you see out there are in sweats or the off day they would be in jeans and a lululemon shirt, or even a collared one. The international students never have an off-day, each day is a style day. Asking him to pose for campus street style on Twin, he said that he never tries to look too casual, but not too classy at the same time. He almost feels “sorry” when he is not dressing up, because it really doesn’t take that much more effort! Charlie Qingkang Cao’s outfit consists of the brands and stores: -Pull n Bear (Zara affiliate) -H&M -Nordstrom Rack -Saks Fifth Ave OFF 5th -Forever 21 Usually he goes for the fast fashion since that is the trendiest, and affordable at the same time. Being an apparel design major(originally was biology surprisingly), he feels as if he does pay more attention to the clothes out there more than others, which makes shopping a really fun and inspiring experience. But, at the same time especially in the case of Forever 21, you could have the same shirt that five other people also thought was cute. To stay away from this issue, he recommends to chose something out of your normal color palette or comfort zone. His floral shirt does this exactly! I also feel like a lot of us will look at our closet and notice a majority of about three colors. We need to spice up our wardrobes! By doing this, it can help you start a trend, and make it look less like you are re-wearing the same thing (even though you honestly do have ten black sweaters). Get out there and add some spice to your fast fashion pieces!
