I don’t know how in the world we’ve made it into December without the snow and chills of a typical Minnesota winter, but somehow we have and I definitely am not complaining… as long as we get out white Christmas of course ;) Thanks to the un-usual winter warmth, however, it’s allowed for us fashionistas to keep our style game strong with layers, on layers - without the hassle of winter wear bulk. I posted on my insta story about a month ago when I received this scarf from Ily Mix and I had to share a post with you all featuring it once more because I wasn’t kidding when I said I’ll be wearing it everywhere… I have been! Ily Mix has by far some of the best quality scarves I’ve ever ordered from an online site. It can be hard to tell when making online purchases what you’re really getting yourself into, but I swear by Ily Mix and can 100% promise you that you will not be let down. This scarf is thick with plenty of warmth, plus the double sided pattern detailing is quite possibly the cutest touch. I’ve worn this scarf with everything from an oversized sweater to leather pants and a denim moto jacket as you’re seeing here - proof that a cozy piece can be just as versatile as your other staple styles.
What is your favorite winter style staple? Mine is hands down all these cozy scarves!

It’s official, I’ve caught a bad case of the floral fever as I absolutely cannot drag myself away from these pretty prints and this top from Urban Violet, is no exception. I think the main reason I am such a sucker for flowery pieces is because a lot of my wardrobe is pretty plain; basic tees, solid hues, and layering items - so when it comes to floral, it gives me a chance to add some color, play around with prints, and create an outfit that is sweet and girly - knowing me, would you suspect anything else!? :) The high neckline on this top is the runner up for the detail that I admire most. Higher necklines take away the questionable “what necklace do I wear” and allow you to dress up with earrings and bracelets instead! My go-to earrings are a pair of skinny rose gold hoops I found at T.J. Maxx - you guys, I’m telling you… they seriously go with everything! When it comes to purses, I typically like to have three basic options to choose from; one in chesnut; black; and a smaller “going out” type of bag - as I absolutely hate re-arranging my purse and taking items in and out… I never fail to lose something! This clutch you’re seeing her from Pixie + Mood is tempting me though… I don’t know if it’s the colors or the adorable fringe + cork that’s pulling at me to splurge! (Trust me, I’ve probably talked myself into every scenario possible as to why I “need” this purse.) What are some of your favorite purses? And an honest opinion here… do I really “need” this purse?! The indecisive me can’t decide :) Have a wonderful week! A special thank you to Urban Violet for sponsoring this post! Photos Courtesy of Ali Miller Photography Dresses, rompers and jumpsuits galore, hop into spring with the essentials of the season! In previous posts I’ve mentioned my love for these pieces, but the admiration became an obsession when I stumbled upon this dove grey jumper from Urban Violet. Everything from the neutral hue, pleated legs, high slits and deep neckline made this piece a wardrobe must-have as it could be worn for a number of occasions such as work-wear, wedding attire, or a snazzy night out. Elegant or edgy, it’s up to you, this jumper is versatile and has its options. Take this look from day to night, as I’ve done here, by adding a blazer for the office and simple sparkly accessories that work from sunlight to moonlight. This grey hue pairs nicely with the natural nude tone of these basic ankle strap heels and Ark. & Co. blazer that I absolutely adore! Jumpers and rompers are much easier to wear than most tend to think, but my rule of thumb is trying to stick to pieces that are made in solid colors to void off looking larger than reality and buying in-store only, as it’s hard to gage the fit of these pieces if you’ve got a longer torso like myself. If you’re a first time jumpsuit buyer, believe me when I say it is 100% okay to buy larger sizes to fit your body type! Don’t feel like you need to squeeze into something just to stick to your size and don’t check off a piece you absolutely love just because you need to buy a size up… it’s OKAY. Cause really, you’d much rather “look like a lady” and be comfortable than sacrifice for a tag with a number on it. With the warmer months right around the corner, now is the perfect time to start shopping with jumpers on your mind! White, grey, blush, lavender and nude are trending colors this season and what better combo to buy then that as these hues all serve as wardrobe staples since they can easily be mixed and matched throughout the year. Looking to get a jump start on spring + summer shopping? Check out Urban Violet for the latest and greatest (including this ENTIRE outfit) in fabulous fashions for the sunnier days. More in florals, more in ruffles, and even more in rompers as I just can’t seem to get enough of these fabulous fashions, here’s a piece that combines them all. I came across this romper at T.J. Maxx and instantly grabbed it as it combines each and every element I’ve been crushing on this season. The burgundy color was an added plus being that this hue is easily transitioned into summer and fall when paired with the right pieces. Adding one of my favorite go-to accesrorries, a floppy hat, and these comfy lace up wedges, this look is perfect for visits to the farmers market, picnics in the park or whatever other casual event you may be attending! When shopping for accessories, I’m a huge advocate for chestnut and gold because I think they can essentially go with anything and everything. Found that perfect romper? If yes, I want to hear about your finds! And if not… check out local boutiques or T.J. Maxx for some adorable options.
These denim skirts were a craze last season and we’re already seeing them re-appear this spring, since after all, they’re so cute!…. So hooray to that! Easily mixed and matched with casual tops or dressy tanks, you really can’t wear these skirts wrong. My favorite way to wear this skirt, however, is paired with this ivory off the shoulder top for a casual look that’s just right for a morning coffee chat or a little window shopping downtown. Worn alone, this top also pairs amazingly with frayed denim ankle jeans and bold shoes or crisp clean white jeans, gold + beige accessories and nude wedges for a nautical & natural look. While summer may be my favorite season of them all, I sometimes find it hardest to dress for the transitional weather. I’m a big fan of layering in the cooler months so when it comes to spring & summer, these first few months feel like a wardrobe malfunction! Finding those perfect pieces, such as this white top, that work well for 3 our of the 4 seasons are items I tend to look for when seeking to expand my transitional summer/spring wardrobe. This season, I am still all about these off the shoulder tops and more recently, cold shoulder pieces as well. I’ve got my eyes on a cute little polka dot cold shoulder dress over at Urban Violet… stay tuned, it might be appearing here soon!
Happy spring & happy shopping! Floral, it’s one of those prints that we either love or we hate as there is really no in between, yet, a lot of the time when I go to ask someone whether or not floral is part of their wardrobe they hesitate to answer as if it’s somehow bad to be wearing the print. Truth be told, floral is in, and it has been for a while. More often than not it’s over looked as either too flashy, obnoxiously bright or has the appearance as though it was made out of some tacky old wall paper print. But this season, that’s not the case. I will admit that I own quite a bit of different floral pieces and as someone who likes to stick to basics could argue that the prints can be tricky to wear, although once you figure out those staple pieces to pair along with your prints, you’ll be styled to perfection. Depending on the color hue within the florals, my go to piece for adding some edge to the feminine pattern is by adding a leather jacket or a statement shoe such as the knee high boots. Consider it - had I worn this top with something simpler, such as nude flats, this look would not only be less modern but also so boring. Styling is fun, and so are florals! Floral gets a bad rep, but I encourage you to give it a chance not only because it is so simple to find adorable pieces in the print but also because it’s so easy to style and be done right. What drew me to this featured top was initially the color scheme as it could essentially be worn throughout the year just depending on how you wear it. Here, I styled it for a fall/winter look as it could be worn for either season. Even though spring is arriving in a few months (… maybe a few more for us Minnesotan’s) I have no doubt that I will not be retiring this piece for the season as I plan to adjust the look with white skinnies, fun wedges, and light neutral accessories. So I’ll say it again, floral is fab - don’t let it scare you away! It’s a fun flirty print that can be styled in countless ways to spruce up your daily basics. Invest in a piece, I swear you won’t regret it.
Okay, let’s be honest, I love sparkles. So much so, that if I could have a trail that followed me everywhere I went I’d check yes to that option in a heart beat! … well, that might be a bit extreme, but, you get the point. As you could imagine, when I saw this necklace during my weekly stroll through T.J. Max, I immediately fell in love and knew I had to grab it…. plus - it was on clearance!
Statement pieces can be tough to wear, but they are so much fun to play around with and mix n’ match with different outfits to add some glam. Obviously here I’ve paired this bold necklace with a sleek little slip dress which isn’t exactly a casual go-to look but it goes to show the versatility of such pieces. Had I not worn this necklace all dolled up, I would have paired it with a basic grey or white flowy top, dark wash or grey jeans (darker shade than the top . . . no cement suits please!), some winter booties, and a leather jacket making for a sophisticated and chic city strolling outfit. There’s countless options for styling statement pieces but the key to making them work, is to just have fun with it! So get out there, find some stunning pieces, and style on! You know you’re “100 Percent North Dakota” when you bear the negative temps just to get some shots in a fab outfit! Oh the things I’ll do for fashion… Today I am hyping up this outfit from head to toe as each piece featured here has been deemed a seasonal statement from the knee high suede boots and faux leather to the graphic tee and faux fur jacket. Each element of this outfit is unique in it’s own way, but paired together, screams all things edgy, chic and fab - and who can say no to that?! Faux leather has been making a comeback in the past year as we’ve seen it appearing in all forms from jackets and tops to pants and skirts and everything in-between, essentially it’s one of those wardrobe staples as leather can easily be dressed up with silky flowy tops or dressed down with a chunky knit sweater and booties. Speaking of versatility in day to night wear, who knew a graphic tee could be worn in so many more ways than just the same old plain jeans and tee combo? I’ve never been much of a graphic tee girl myself, as I tend to stick to plain basics, but once again the ladies at Pretty b. assured me otherwise that graphic tee’s are indeed effortless style with ease. As you can see, this graphic tee pulls together this blacked out outfit by adding a crisp edge to the look with clean whites and bold lettering - a recommended style for us ND (&MN) fashionistas! Moving along I’m just going to touch on faux fur (stay tuned for a full faux fur post coming soon!). As I mentioned, this styled shoot was shot in negative North Dakota temps which for some reason just seem even colder than the thermometer reads, yet despite the cold, this cozy fur jacket was the only thing saving me from the wintery chills all while keeping the look sleek and pulled together without the bulk of a winter jacket - that my friends, is a fashion win. How are you mixing your favorite wardrobe staples? Share your styling secrets in the comments below for a chance to be featured in an upcoming post!
I’m re-opening the yearbook and bringing back some high school cheerleading memories as today I’m talking about all things pretty in pleats. Pleats are one of those trends that have, like most, come and gone throughout the years, but they’re back, and I’m loving it - as you soon might too. Instead of going out and purchasing a pleated piece (which they can be found at so many retailers!) I actually dug up this burnt orange skirt in my closet - one of those things I’d bought off season a couple years back and, well, never wore or got rid of. (I will admit, I have a bad attachment to my clothes and literally cannot get rid of anything for the fear of it coming back in… see mom, it does!) The skirt itself was part of a fall collection, but here I’ve brought the piece into winter by styling it with some of my favorite black pieces including this long sleeveless vest I found at Target for 70% off! The skirt itself was a dark enough hue where I could easily tie in the black and add gold accessories for a subtle contrast creating this stylish date night outfit. Who knew pleated pieces could be so much fun? Style Tip: Pleats speak for themselves. Avoid pairing anything to “loud” with pleated pieces. For instance, don’t wear ruffles and possibly avoid stripes. The key to sophistication is keeping it simple with basics and solids.
Say hello to suede this season as it’s taking center stage for all things warm and chic - this skirt especially. Suede is one of those fabrics that never seems to go out of style and there’s a reason for it too. With its versatility, suede is easily considered a wardrobe staple as it’s one of those pieces that will always come in handy. This skirt alone is a prime example of savvy suede. Fitted and flattering, this skirt can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Here, I’ve paired this high waisted suede skirt with a retro off the shoulder striped top making for a fun yet modern 70’s inspired style, a look that’s perfect for a casual lunch or day on the town. Come the evening, this skirt could be transformed into evening chic paired with a sleek black top and a leather jacket creating a contrast between the soft suede and edgy leather, top off this evening look with a statement necklace or earring to craft a look that stands out. When shopping for suede, my advice is to opt for fitted pieces that showcase your own unique features and sway away from downing in the fabric which would take so much away from the chicness of this fabric. This skirt is the perfect example of what to look for when shopping suede. What I love most about this style in particular is the firmness of the piece. It sits right below the rib cage and sucks in everything beneath all while maintaining comfort and style - need I say more? Loving this look? Me too. Be sure to shop Pretty b. for all things savvy and suede and make a mark on your wardrobe.
